WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on auto tariffs on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a news briefing.

The White House on Tuesday confirmed plans for the Trump administration to soften the impact of automotive tariffs. Current tariffs of 25% on imported vehicles into the U.S. will continue, but the new measures will prevent other adjacent levies such as steel and aluminum from "stacking" on top of them.

A slower phase-in for tariffs on auto parts will give manufacturers more time to ramp up manufacturing in the United States. Some analysts warn the tariffs will still drive car prices up.
