A 1-mile family run, a 5K, and a 5-mile were all part of the 34th year for the event, which featured record-breaking participation this year.

A record number of runners (and walkers) were expected to hit the street this morning, burning off a few calories before tearing into their turkey. The annual ‘turkey trot’ tradition goes back longer than you might think.

Organizers praised the community effort, which has raised some $12 million over 20 years for South Bay agencies working on hunger and health issues.

The Latrobe Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk is put on each year by the city's Parks and Recreation Department. While this race normally draws a crowd, this year, close to 1,000 people came to step off their holiday the healthy way and celebrate the Turkey Trot's 30th anniversary.

Thanksgiving is all about the food but for some, it’s also about going for a run.
