U.S. travelers flying domestically are required to show a Real ID at airport checkpoints. The May 7 deadline for Americans to switch to the federally compliant identification comes after more than 20 years of being delayed.

The time has come. Starting Wednesday, passengers nationwide must a use state-issued ID or license that is “REAL ID” complaint to travel within the US.

After two decades marked by delays, Americans hoping to board an airplane for a domestic flight on Wednesday will need a Real ID.

As the enforcement of the federal Real ID law went into effect Wednesday, many travelers were let off with a warning about their noncompliant cards.

REAL ID or other eligible identification is required to board domestic flights at PHL airport, or travelers risk added wait times at TSA checkpoints.

Alabama STAR IDs will look like traditional driver licenses except with a gold star in the upper left corners.
