Prosecutors filed 10 counts against Bryan Keith Hall, including robbery charges stemming from an alleged hold-up on a transit bus after the shooting.

The death of Joshua Byrd, 40, marked the first on-duty killing of a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officer in seven years.

The shooting occurred just before 1 p.m. Thursday inside the Alameda County parole office on Edgewater Drive, police said. Police sources said the suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Brian Keith Hall, was a parolee. The parole officer was taken to Highland Hospital where he died.
