Newark, New Jersey Mayor Ras Baraka on Monday said that an immigrant detention facility in his city is open and housing migrants as his administration is trying to block it from operating. The Democratic mayor said he learned of Delaney Hall opening by “word of mouth” and that fire inspectors were not allowed into the building on Monday.

Authorities have identified over two dozen safety issues involving plumbing, fire code compliance, and electrical systems

The city says it hasn't been granted full access to inspect the facility, which is being operated by a private contractor.
