The controversy began when Dhanush filed a lawsuit against Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, accusing them of using unauthorized footage from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the documentary, which was released on Netflix.

Nayanthara's husband Vignesh Shivan was recently criticised after his appearance at a roundtable interview about pan-India films.

The case was brought to the Madras High Court on November 27 and the court asked Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, and others to clarify the allegations against them.
