YouTube is bringing its Veo 3 AI video generation model, which my colleague Allison Johnson recently called “a slop monger’s dream,” to YouTube Shorts later this summer, according to a Cannes Lions keynote from YouTube CEO Neal Mohan.

Mohan, who appeared at the 2025 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in celebration of YouTube’s 20-year anniversary, revealed a change is coming to YouTube Shorts. While speaking about the power of AI tools, the executive announced that Veo 3 will be coming to Shorts later this summer.

The Veo 3 video generator is capable of creating both videos and sound based on text prompts, with YouTube CEO Neal Mohan saying the "AI technology will push the limits of human creativity."
