Sgt. Brian Bower, a department spokesperson, said officers went to the area of 24th Street and Van Buren Avenue at about 1:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting at a parking lot. Responding officers found 53-year-old Maurice Stewart with multiple gunshot wounds. Steward was taken to a hospital where he later died.

At 9:17 p.m. Sunday, officers received a report of people fighting in the parking lot of a business in the 4100 block of Portsmouth Boulevard, according to Master Police Officer Michael Hilton of the department’s Public Information Office. They also got calls that someone was shooting a gun, Hilton said.

Following an investigation into a shooting in Danville, police detectives arrested a 17-year-old for aggravated battery with a firearm and is being held at the Juvenile

After talking to witnesses, police say an individual approached a car and fired several shots into it. Their investigation revealed someone in the car shot back as they were leaving,

"The man was taken to a local hospital where he was unable to overcome his injuries and died," read a portion of Phoenix Police's statement. "No suspects have been contacted at this time." The investigation remains ongoing.
