The Conservative Party chipped away at the lead held by Mark Carney’s Liberals in the final days of Canada’s election campaign, though surveys still point to a probable Liberal victory in Monday’s vote.

Canadians will vote for a candidate from one of the political parties in their federal “riding,” or district. Whichever candidate gets the most votes in a riding will become a Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons, and the party with the most MPs wins the election.

A new POLITICO/Focaldata poll shows US President Donald Trump is a major factor in Canada’s election, with 75% of Canadians viewing him unfavorably. His return has hurt Conservative support, helping Liberal Leader Mark Carney gain an edge.
