Spotify is getting support for Google’s Gemini Extensions, which will allow users to search for and play music using the generative AI assistant with natural language requests. Google has started rolling out its Spotify extension for Gemini users on Android. Under the "Play & Search" moniker, users can ask Gemini to discover music based on artist, song title, playlist, or lyrics. The feature echoes what Google rolled out for Gemini users earlier this year for YouTube Music.

The Spotify extension is available on Android but does not work within the Gemini web app or the iOS Gemini app. Users can include “@Spotify” in their request for more precise service targeting. Spotify is the second non-Google app to gain Gemini support following the rollout of WhatsApp integration in October 2023.
