The Phillies almost lost their closer on a scary line drive play on Friday. Jhoan Duran was removed from the game and tested negative on his X-rays, which gave Phillies fans renewed life in their team's ability to win the World Series in 2025.
The team issued a red flag on franchise ace Zack Wheeler when they pushed back his latest start due to some shoulder discomfort. Wheeler was able to pitch against the Rangers on Sunday, but his velocity was down and he made some uncharacteristic mistakes as he struggled with control as well.
Whitley struck out eight, walked one, and allowed only three hits. Since the Rays transitioned Whitley back into a starting pitcher, he has posted a 1.76 ERA in 30 2/3 innings with a 39/6 K/BB ratio. With a revamped arsenal and plenty of Triple-A success behind him, we may get a chance to see Whitley make MLB starts later this season.
