A grand jury in Hennepin County indicted suspected shooter Vance Boelter on state charges after he allegedly shot two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses.

In Minnesota, a first-degree murder charge has to be brought by a grand jury indictment. A grand jury indicted Boelter on the following charges, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty: First-degree premediated murder of both Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman.

State prosecutors had previously charged the man with second-degree murder in the deaths of State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband.
