OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, whose company created the ChatGPT chatbot, said he believes President-elect Trump will help the U.S. build leading AI infrastructure.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed optimism that President-elect Donald Trump will help the United States stay in the lead in the race on artificial intelligence, underscoring how it looks like this will be an “unusually important” topic to deal with.

Musk alleges Altman’s OpenAI has strayed from its initial non-profit mission and has sought to cut off competition from other AI companies, like Musk’s xAI.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed confidence that Trump's administration would support the AI sector to ensure the US and its allies continue to lead it.

"We need to build that here and we need to be able to have the best AI infrastructure in the world to be able to lead with the technology and the capabilities," he said.

While Altman’s salary is modest, other OpenAI employees are reaping the rewards of their company’s success. Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI’s former chief scientist who stepped away from the company earlier this year, received $322,201 in compensation last year, according to OpenAI’s tax filing.
