LONDON (AP) — All five parties in Greenland’s parliament issued a joint statement on Friday rejecting President Donald Trump’s latest effort to take control of the strategic Arctic island. The statement was issued by the leaders of all five parties that won seats in parliament in an election held earlier this week.

The outgoing prime minister of Greenland on Thursday said he would summon party leaders to strengthen their rejection of US President Donald Trump’s plan to annex the island territory, following his most recent comments on the issue.

We don’t want to be Americans. No, we don’t want to be Danes. We want to be Greenlanders,” said Jens-Frederik Nielsen of the island’s Demokraatit party.
