College football’s national champion is about to be determined in a whole new way. Following a decade of a four-team playoff format, the 2024 season is the first to use an expanded, 12-team field for the College Football Playoff.

Oregon, Ohio State, Texas and Penn State held onto the top spots in the latest edition of the College Football Playoff rankings, the selection committee announced. Three other schools dropped from the projected list.

There was some significant movement in the new rankings released after the Week 13 games. While the top four teams in last week's rankings —Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, and Penn State—all took care of business, other teams projected to be in the 12-team College Football Playoff bracket suffered losses.
