ADEN, Yemen -- Saudi-backed forces spread across Yemen's Mukalla on Sunday after retaking the port city which was seized by southern separatists last month. The capital of Hadramout province was retaken by Yemen’s internationally recognized government following days of Saudi airstrikes.

Yemeni troops backed by Saudi Arabia retook an oil-rich region over the weekend from a separatist militia seeking to form a breakaway state. The National Shield Forces, supported by Saudi airstrikes, took control of Hadramout and Al-Mahra provinces from the Southern Transitional Council backed by the UAE.

Saudi Arabia-backed forces in Yemen regained control of the strategic region of Hadramout over the weekend, following days of clashes with secessionist groups aligned with the United Arab Emirates.

Saudi-backed National Shield Forces rolled into Aden, Yemen, on Thursday, driving through the streets in armored vehicles.
