The Missouri Department of Revenue began offering REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and ID cards on March 25, 2019. More than 1.6 million REAL IDs have been issued since then.

REAL ID licenses are not required for driving, voting, state purposes or age verification. You will still be able to obtain a REAL ID after May 7. That is only the first day of enforcement.

According to the DOR, Missouri law allows for a one-time waiver of the duplicate transaction fees, which would be $19.50, for those who have not been issued a REAL ID license or ID card.

Residents can apply for a REAL ID-compliant driver license or non-driver identification card at one of Missouri’s many contract license office locations. In Texas County that is on North U.S. 63.

Missouri law currently prohibits compliance with the Real ID Act, which was passed under former President George W. Bush as a response to the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Missouri Department of Revenue officials said they are confident they will get another extension. They expect the state to be compliant with the Real ID Act in March 2019.

On March 25, Missouri became one of the last states to begin offering REAL ID licenses, which residents will need to board flights and enter federal facilities like Fort Leonard Wood late next year.
