Over a third of US states are set to raise their minimum hourly wage in 2026, but worker advocates including Sen. Bernie Sanders on Wednesday decried a federal minimum wage that’s remained at $7.25 since 2009 — and just $2.13 an hour for tipped workers for over three decades.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City’s minimum wage is getting a boost in 2026. Starting Jan. 1, 2026, minimum wage workers in New York City, Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk counties will receive a 50-cent increase to $17 from $16.50.

Colorado is one of 19 states set to raise its hourly minimum in 2026, with some municipalities reaching more than twice the federal minimum. Beginning Jan. 1, the statewide minimum wage will be $15.16
