A quiet walk near the water turned into a sudden nightmare when an alligator lunged and grabbed the man’s dog. Without stopping to think, he rushed forward and confronted the animal at close range.

UPDATE (4:15 p.m.): The day after a 12-foot alligator killed a five-year-old lab named Vada, he was back in the same spot along the Intracoastal Waterway in Gulf Shores, right by Paige Griffin’s dock.
