You don't have to visit an ID card office until later. If your CAC has expired and you are outside the 30-day window, you will have to visit an ID card issuing office to get a new one.

The federal Real ID Act will take effect May 7, meaning a standard state-issued driver's license or identification card will no longer get people through airport security or into federal buildings.

Under the latest guidance, dependents of active-duty, Guard and Reserve members whose ID cards expired before July 31, 2021, have until Oct. 31, 2021, to get a new ID card.
