Two landslides and one washed-out bridge blocked California’s Highway 1 at Big Sur Village and Mud Creek for many weeks. On July 18, the road was reopened at the site of Paul’s Slide.
The Big Sur Marathon, which began in 1986, has been canceled twice in its history, for the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021. The course was altered in 1998 and 2011 because of Highway 1 washouts.
