A massive magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Russia on Tuesday, sparking tsunami warnings -- and evacuations of coastal areas -- in Hawaii and alerts for other areas of the U.S. West Coast.

A tsunami warning has been issued for Hawaii, where waves set off by an 8.8-magnitude earthquake in Russia’s remote Far East are expected to arrive after 7 p.m. local time.

A massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Russia, triggering a tsunami advisory for California as well as warnings for Hawaii and Alaska. The earthquake struck the southeast area of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia at around 4:25 p.m. PST.
