Efforts to control a bushfire threatening multiple coastal towns north of Perth have continued overnight, with hundreds of firefighters battling the blaze.

An evacuation warning remains in place as an enormous bushfire bears down on the town of Cervantes on the coast of Western Australia.

Residents have been told to evacuate as a fire tears through parts of Wedge Island, Cooljarloo and Dandaragan.

Residents in several coastal communities north of Perth are warned it is too late to leave as an out of control bushfire continues to threaten lives and properties.

On Friday morning, the fire was moving in a westerly direction as strong winds continue to wreak havoc. A hot forecast of 37 degrees in Jurien Bay are expected to make things more challenging. 9 News Perth reported that in Grey and Wedge Island, 37 people decided to stay and defend their homes.

Residents have been told it is too late to leave their properties as an out-of-control bushfire cuts evacuation routes from a series of coastal communities north of Perth. An emergency warning is in place for parts of Wedge Island, Grey, Cervantes, Nambung and Cooljarloo in the Shire of Dandaragan in Western Australia.

After an evacuation order was issued for Cervantes last night, firefighters working to protect the town are expected to face tricky conditions today.

The volunteer aged in his 60s was at the scene of the fire near Wedge Island which is about 150km north of the city when he was injured. He was flown to Fiona Stanley Hospital in a stable condition yesterday afternoon.
