OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, whose company created the ChatGPT chatbot, said he believes President-elect Trump will help the U.S. build leading AI infrastructure.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed optimism that President-elect Donald Trump will help the United States stay in the lead in the race on artificial intelligence, underscoring how it looks like this will be an “unusually important” topic to deal with.

"We need to build that here and we need to be able to have the best AI infrastructure in the world to be able to lead with the technology and the capabilities," he said.

Sam Altman, the cofounder and CEO of artificial intelligence market leader OpenAI, was reportedly paid just $76,001 in 2023. It might seem like a shockingly low number, but it’s also not entirely unexpected.

Altman was responding to a question on the United States' competition with China on AI, adding "we very much believe that the United States and our allies need to lead this." Altman also said the US Congress needs to pass legislation that erects safeguards for the use of artificial intelligence.
