Superman's star Nicholas Hoult revealed Smallville actor Michael Rosenbaum's reaction to his casting as Lex Luthor and the advice he gave.

"That's a really bolstering sort of thing to happen," Hoult tells EW. One of the first Lex Luthors that Nicholas Hoult remembers seeing as a kid is the one played by Michael Rosenbaum on Smallville, the CW series featuring Tom Welling as Clark Kent/Kal-El in a high-school coming-of-age setting.

While Jon Cryer and Michael Cudlitz have recently played versions of Lex Luthor in The CW series Supergirl and Superman & Lois, respectively, Hoult recalled growing up with Hackman’s Luthor and Rosenbaum’s Lex as “the first Lex that I was more aware of.”
