The Miami Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison located at the former Grissom Air Force Base about 70 miles north of Indianapolis, can house up to 3,100 people. Annie Goeller, chief communications officer for IDOC, said part of the facility has not been filled because of a staffing shortage.

Indiana is expanding a state prison by 1,000 beds to house migrants in what Trump officials are calling the ‘Speedway Slammer.’

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem revealed Indiana’s “Speedway Slammer,” a successor to the “Alligator Alcatraz” immigration detention facility in Florida. The facility will add 1,000 beds to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s detention capacity and follows several other proposed iterations of “Alligator Alcatraz.
