A judge ordered that eight public university board members tapped by Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin be removed from their posts in a victory for Virginia Senate Democrats who rejected the appointees in a June committee vote.

A Virginia judge on Tuesday blocked three universities from recognizing Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s (R-VA) eight board appointees as board members, handing a win to state Democratic lawmakers who rejected the appointments last month.

The Virginia governor has appointed multiple donors, political activists and former GOP officials to governing boards, prompting a clash with faculty and Democrats.
