Gov. Jared Polis verbally declared a disaster emergency Sunday for a wildfire burning in northwest Colorado.

Wildfires burning on Colorado's western slope as of Aug. 5 are contributing to hazy skies in Fort Collins as the smoke moves east.

Three wildfires that started over the weekend on Colorado’s Western Slope have consumed more than 8,000 acres and destroyed at least three buildings, fire officials said.
